After almost nine years as Clerk to Hollesley Parish Council, Judi Hallett will be leaving us to join Melton Parish Council, as their Clerk and Executive Officer. Would you like to take up the role as Clerk to Hollesley Parish Council?     

Role:

Clerk and Proper Officer to Hollesley Parish Council

Salary:

NJC pay scales for SCP 18 to 23 hourly rate £15.21- £16.67 - plus contributory membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme where applicable.

Hours:

Negotiable, based on a 12-hour week. Home working. Clerking of evening meetings at least once a month in Hollesley Village Hall

Vacancy details:

Hollesley Parish Council is seeking an organised and self-motivated person to be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Parish Council. This medium sized village in the heart of the Suffolk and Essex Coast and Heaths National Landscape has an annual turnover of around £50k. The Council is made up of 11 Members and there are two regular contractors to the Council.

The duties include overall responsibility for administration, finances, governance and management of land and property (including the Cemetery and Allotments), as well as providing advice and support to Council decision-making. The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Experience of local government governance and finance is desirable
  • Good inter-personal communication skills informed by an inquiring and curious mind (not people management, the role does not involve being a manager of people or a team)
  • Sound finance skills and commercial awareness (not business skills)
  • An understanding of the ethos of public service, together with the need for accountability and community engagement – a sense of humility coupled to resolve to get things done 
  • Sound IT skills embracing use of Office suite of software (Excel, Word and Outlook), and on-line meeting communication software
  • An understanding and experience of planning law and policy and overt commitment to keep abreast of probable changes
  • CILCA qualification would be an advantage coupled to a self-development mind-set
